- New HQ marine litter data for new HQ products
- 22 March 2021
The new data collection for beach litter has just been released for further analysis. Forthy European countries have contributed to the collection that covers all EU sea basins for the period 2010-2020.
Data have been gathered through more than 10,300 surveys, including official monitoring and other sources like research and citizen science initiatives. The EU JRC endorsed the EMODnet network and, consequently, EU Member States formatted, validated and delivered the data to email@example.com. The marine litter workflow explains the process including all fit-for-purpose guidelines, tools and softwares.
The table below shows per MSFD region, subregion and beyond and per year, from 2010 to 2020:
- the countries that provided the data;
- the number of beach litter surveys, including official monitoring and other types of sources.
After further quality controls carried out by OGS/NODC, the final data collection has been delivered to IFREMER that is responsible for marine litter visualization products. The OGS-IFREMER workflow has been recently facilitated: IFREMER can now directly access the web service. The new products made of these data will be discussed with the board of experts of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) during a dedicated meeting planned for 30 March 2021.
