The kick off meeting of EUROqCHARM has been held on 12 November, 2020.
EUROqCHARM stands for EUROpean quality Controlled Harmonization Assuring Reproducible Monitoring and assessment of plastic pollution. This project, started from the 1st of November 2020 and lasting 36 months, has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 coordination and support action, the framework programme for research and innovation. The project has been really welcome, deserving the evaluation score 14.5 out of 15. EUROqCHARM is a coordination and support action towards a common European framework to tackle plastics pollution by means of a harmonized approach.
The project intends to provide a platform to discuss and validate methods for monitoring environmental samples for plastics, to develop blueprints for standards and to formulate recommendations for revision of current EU policies and instruments.
EUROqCHARM is a consortium of partners, led by the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA). The partnership includes research institutes, SME, research councils, universities, and standards agencies. OGS is partner of the project due to its core competences in marine litter data management, participating in several EU data management initiatives and coordinating EMODnet Chemistry platform. In EUROqCHARM OGS contributes to the alignment of European procedures with global strategies and procedures (WP3), and coordination of the Data Management Plan (WP6).
EMODnet Chemistry has been invited to participate as a stakeholder along with many other leading networks and environmental authorities, such as GOOS and UNEP. EUROqCHARM will call upon their insights and expertise during webinars and stakeholder meetings.
