Marine contaminant maps are now available through EMODnet Chemistry products
The new EMODnet Chemistry maps for contaminants show data spatial distribution and contributes to the evaluation of data quality and adequacy for environmental quality assessment. Products, focused on ten different substances, display data below and above Limit of Quantification (LOQ), data with LOQ above or below 30 percent of EQSD threshold values, as well as the information on the sampled matrix.
All the maps are freely accessible through OGC webservices, selecting the chemical substance. Additionally, the metadata catalogue provides access to the metadata information, the description of the used methodology and the possibility to download the maps
Data from more than 100 originators have been used. These data can be found on EMODnet Chemistry Data Discovery and Access Service The development of marine contaminant maps is the result of the combined work and efforts done by the whole EMODnet Chemistry community: data provision, harmonisation, validation and subsequently, analysis and aggregation, are all necessary steps in the production of such products.
EMODnet Central portal has made note of this important fact, publishing a press note where more information is available.
